What the install actually looks like
The first hour on site is spent on the concrete, not the colour.
We start by finding the cracks nobody mentioned. We turn up with the grinder and the extraction first, and the first hour is dust and noise rather than anything that looks like progress. Impact-tolerant build with a dark forgiving blend.
Once the slab is open and clean we chase any cracks, fill them, and grind those flat. Then the primer goes down, and from that point the day is a sequence with cure windows in it rather than a job you can rush. We are in and out in a day on most garages, then the floor cures.

What we find under a tire shop epoxy job
Basement and below-grade slabs are damp by default. A coating that works in a garage will not necessarily hold down there, so those rooms get a system chosen for moisture rather than for looks.
Gulf Coast concrete carries moisture. Slabs poured on sand without a vapour barrier wick water up through the mix continuously, and that vapour pressure is what lifts a coating months after it looked perfect. We test for it before quoting, because the honest answer sometimes is a moisture-tolerant system rather than standard epoxy.
The system we specify
Cure times are temperature dependent, and a garage in August behaves differently from the same garage in January. We schedule around it rather than pretending it does not matter.
Metallic pigment is moved by hand while the resin is still open, so no two floors are the same. That is the appeal and it also means the installer matters more than the product.

What a working shop does to a floor
Shop floors fail in specific places for specific reasons. Under the lift posts because the load is concentrated. At the bay entrance because that is where wet tyres and road salt land first. Around the parts washer because solvent sits there. A floor specified as a single uniform build across the whole shop is being optimised for the easiest part of the room.
Hot tyre pickup is the failure people know by name. A tyre that has been on the interstate comes in hot and soft, sits on the coating, and when it cools it grips the finish harder than the finish grips the concrete. Cheap single-coat epoxy lifts in patches shaped like tyres. A flake build with a polyaspartic topcoat does not, because the topcoat is harder than the plasticiser coming out of the rubber.
Residential floors are usually a one day job start to finish.

Do not drag steel across it. Lift it, or put something under it.
Expect the finish to look the same in five years if it is looked after. That is the point of specifying properly rather than cheaply.

Can I see the colour before deciding?
Yes. We bring the chip deck out and you pick the blend against your own light and your own walls. Colours read differently under LED, under a skylight and under a garage door that is half open, so choosing off a photograph is how people end up disappointed.
What if the floor is damp?
New pours need to cure before they are coated, and the wait is longer than most people expect. Coating green concrete traps water under the film. We would rather push the date than come back to a blistered floor.
Do I need to reseal it?
Pressure washing exterior coated concrete is fine at sensible pressure. Holding a turbo nozzle in one place is not.
What stops it peeling?
Dark floors show dust and light floors show tyre marks. There is no colour that hides everything, and we would rather say that than sell a finish that disappoints.
