Control joints and cracks are not the same thing and get treated differently. A control joint is doing a job and needs to stay flexible. A crack is failure and gets chased out, filled with a rigid polyurea and ground flat before anything goes over it.

Moisture, contamination and surface profile are the three things that decide whether a floor lasts. Colour is the easy part and the only part most people ask about.
Thickness is specified from the load, not from a brochure. A residential garage and a forklift aisle both get epoxy, and they are not the same floor.
Living with it afterwards
Rubber mats left permanently on a coated floor can mark it. Not damage, but a visible outline. If you use mats, move them occasionally.
Expect the finish to look the same in five years if it is looked after. That is the point of specifying properly rather than cheaply.

Commercial work around Sand Hill
Detached shops and workshops are common on the bigger lots, and those slabs are a different job. They are often unsealed, frequently damp because there is no vapour barrier underneath, and they have usually had something spilled on them. Moisture testing decides the system.
A lot of the calls we take start with somebody having tried a big-box garage floor kit. Those sit on top of sealed concrete and peel, and the removal is more work than the original job would have been.

Why the prep matters more than the colour
Older residential slabs in Jones County often have a soft top layer from being finished too wet. It looks solid and crumbles under a grinder. If we find that, the fix is grinding past it to sound concrete rather than coating over a layer that is already failing.
Concrete keeps moving for years after it is poured, and it moves more near the coast where the ground is wet and sandy. That is why we detail edges and joints rather than laying one continuous rigid sheet and hoping.
Polished concrete uses a densifier that reacts chemically with the slab, hardening it rather than coating it. There is nothing to peel because there is no film.
Grinding is most of the job.

How the day runs
We would rather spend the morning grinding than come back in a year. We arrive with the grinder and the dust extraction, and the first stretch is noise and containment rather than anything that looks like progress. Getting the slab open and clean is what the rest of the day depends on.
Cracks get chased out and filled, high spots come down, and any old coating comes off rather than getting buried. Then the primer goes on and the day becomes a sequence with cure windows in it. We grind, coat and topcoat in one visit on most residential jobs.

Do not use degreasers with high pH on a regular basis. They will dull a clear coat over time. Neutral cleaner and water handles almost everything. If you want to see blends first, the chip deck comes to you, and there are finished floors on the gallery page.
