What the install actually looks like
The first hour on site is spent on the concrete, not the colour.
We start by finding the cracks nobody mentioned. We turn up with the grinder and the extraction first, and the first hour is dust and noise rather than anything that looks like progress. Cost-effective seamless build for big spans.
Once the slab is open and clean we chase any cracks, fill them, and grind those flat. Then the primer goes down, and from that point the day is a sequence with cure windows in it rather than a job you can rush. The whole system goes down in one visit on most homes.

Slabs poured on sand without a vapour barrier wick water up through the mix continuously, and that vapour pressure is what lifts a coating months after it looked perfect. We test for it before quoting, because the honest answer sometimes is a moisture-tolerant system rather than standard epoxy.

The system we specify
Polyaspartic topcoats cure faster and hold colour better under UV than standard epoxy clears. They also go down in a wider temperature window, which matters when you are working through a Mississippi summer.
Cementitious urethane costs more than epoxy and outlives it in any wet or thermally cycled room. In a brewery or a food plant it is not an upgrade, it is the correct product.

Working around the people who use the building
Schools, churches and community buildings have hard calendars. A school floor goes down in the holidays or it does not go down. A church hall is booked most evenings. The install has to fit the calendar, which usually means fast-cure materials and working in defined sections rather than closing the building.
The use pattern is also unusual. These floors see very heavy traffic in short bursts and then nothing, and they get cleaned by people who are not professional cleaners. That argues for a forgiving finish with a texture that hides scuffing and a maintenance routine that is genuinely just a mop.

Living with the floor afterwards
Keep grit off it and a coated floor lasts. Grit under a tyre or a boot is abrasive, and abrasion is the only thing that genuinely wears a good topcoat.
Coated floors do not need to be stripped and resealed, which is where the savings against VCT actually come from.

Can I see the colour before deciding?
Yes. We bring the chip deck out and you pick the blend against your own light and your own walls. Colours read differently under LED, under a skylight and under a garage door that is half open, so choosing off a photograph is how people end up disappointed.
What do you find under a floor like this?
Some floors do not need coating at all. If the slab is sound and the use is light, polishing or sealing the concrete itself is cheaper and lasts longer. We will say so.
What maintenance does it need?
Maintenance is a dust mop and occasionally a neutral cleaner. No wax, no sealing, no annual reapplication. If someone tells you a coated floor needs yearly maintenance, they are describing their own product failing.
What am I paying for in the build?
Quartz systems are built in layers, broadcast and troweled rather than rolled. It is slower to install and it is the toughest, grippiest thing we lay.
