Where a floor has been patched repeatedly with different products, each patch behaves differently under a grinder and under resin. Sometimes the right call is removing the patches entirely.
What a Puckett job usually involves
A lot of the calls we take start with somebody having tried a big-box garage floor kit. Those sit on top of sealed concrete and peel, and the removal is more work than the original job would have been.
The whole system goes down in one visit on most homes.
We get asked about basements less here than on higher ground, but where there is one it is damp by default, and a coating that works in a garage will not necessarily hold down there.
We see a lot of two-car garages where only half the floor has ever been parked on, and the wear pattern is obvious once the grinder starts. That does not change the spec, but it does explain why one side looks worse.

Before we quote anything
Control joints and cracks are not the same thing and get treated differently. A control joint is doing a job and needs to stay flexible. A crack is failure and gets chased out, filled with a rigid polyurea and ground flat before anything goes over it.
Moisture-tolerant primers exist for a reason and cost more for a reason. On a damp slab they are the difference between a floor and a warranty claim.
Living with it afterwards
Do not drag steel across it. Lift it, or put something under it.
Warehouse floors want a scrubber with the right pad, not the most aggressive one available.

Commercial work around Puckett
The honest answer for most homes in this area is that it is a one day job on a sound slab, and the only thing that changes that is what we find when we start grinding.
Commercial work in a town this size is usually small and specific. One wet room, one kitchen, one shop floor that has to be closed for the shortest possible time. Those jobs get planned around opening hours from the first conversation.

Why the prep matters more than the colour
A slab that has been acid etched instead of ground has an inconsistent profile. Some areas take the coating and some do not, and you cannot tell which until it fails. We grind regardless of what was done before.
Concrete keeps moving for years after it is poured, and it moves more near the coast where the ground is wet and sandy. That is why we detail edges and joints rather than laying one continuous rigid sheet and hoping.
Thickness is specified from the load, not from a brochure. A residential garage and a forklift aisle both get epoxy, and they are not the same floor.
Grinding is most of the job.

How the day runs
We open up the surface and see what we are actually dealing with. We arrive with the grinder and the dust extraction, and the first stretch is noise and containment rather than anything that looks like progress. Getting the slab open and clean is what the rest of the day depends on.
Cracks get chased out and filled, high spots come down, and any old coating comes off rather than getting buried. Then the primer goes on and the day becomes a sequence with cure windows in it. Residential floors are usually a one day job start to finish.
